Study Trip to Baugnez
December, 17th 2011, Baugnez
On December 17th, 2011 CEBA went on its long prepared study trip to the Ardennes. President Camille P. Kohn and his mates had chosen the Bastogne corridor this time for exploration. Due to the skills of Ceba’s helluva bus driver, members could be brought on narrow and icy roads to historical spots like Clochimont, Assenois and Bastogne. Thoughtful halts were made at massacre spots like Ligneuville and Baugnez (Malmedy).
After lunch at the Five Stars Brasserie in Baugnez, Ceba group visited “Baugnez 44 Historical Center”. This museum deals with the Ardennes offensive and more specifically with the massacre of Malmedy on 850 square meters, shared on two different levels. Ceba members marveled at authentic artifacts, vehicles, framed pictures and many more items of the area. The whole museum was filled with emotions and visitors were taken right back in time. Highly trained and well-prepared re-enactors made the acquaintance of the Ceba crew and remained in contact since the present day.
After darkness set in, Ceba took the way home on snowy and icy roads. Our bus driver faced the challenge and must be singled out for praise. He did a perfect job, carrying us home safe. December 17th, 2011 remains in the memory of every single tour participant, as a thoughtful and instructional day.
